Teacher and Founder

TutorMom is owned and operated by Peggy Pfingsten, a graduate of California State University at Long Beach (Cal-State Long Beach) with experience in writing, editing, page design, tutoring, mentoring and home schooling for grades Kindergarten through High School. In 1985, Mrs. Pfingsten worked with other home schoolers in establishing the Home School Support Group of Fallbrook, California. She used her university education to both encourage other teachers and improve the educational methods required for successful instruction in reading, writing, math, and outdoor activities.

In 2004, after years of assisting parents and other teachers with learning challenges, Mrs. Pfingsten made the decision to start teaching private classes using a time-proven intuitive, yet formalized approach to learning. Focused in the San Diego county area of California, Peggy offers creative, learning-wise courses and mentoring to students and home teachers which provide excellence in student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

Associate Instructor

Karen O. Colterman is a home schooling Mom who spent more than 30 years on staff of newspapers in the United States and Canada. Most of those years were spent as a reporter and later as an editor. Some of the earlier years were spent as a graphics manager and sales representative. She has received various writing awards throughout the years. She lives in Fallbrook with her husband and son, and their Golden Retriever, cat and fish.

When Mrs. Colterman isn’t teaching, she works as a freelance writer, while she finds time to help at church and attend Bible studies. She and her son also share in a pet sitting business, and she is working on her first book. Mrs. Colterman says she is blessed to be joining Tutor Mom and loves working with Mrs. Pfingsten. She receives special joy in reading what the students write and being able to experience their wonderful imaginations.
